Drum Blaster V.2.0
for the CMS Sound Blaster
(C) by Larry Tipton 1991
Drum Blaster turns your Sound Blaster equipped PC into an electronic drum
machine. Just tap any of the programed keys and off you go! In addition
to various drum sounds I've included guitar riffs, voices and other
effects. In addition, there are 10 user-defined drum sequences.
Play along with the radio. Create your own rap song. Wonder in amazement.
Impress your friends. Crank it up and drive your family crazy!!!
What you'll need to get started:
1) IBM compatible PC with a Sound Blaster card installed
2) EGA (minimum) graphics card/monitor
3) 330K free RAM
4) The Drum Blaster software!!!
5) A keyboard and a sense of rhythm would also be helpful.
Installation:
Just copy files to an appropriate sub directory on you hard disk (if you
have one) or simply copy the files to diskette.
Type DB. Press enter.
Drum Blaster makes every attempt to locate the address of your Sound Blaster.
If for some strange reason you get no sound from the Sound Blaster try typing
DB XXX Y where XXX is the Port IO Address and Y is the interrupt number.
To exit Drum Blaster press ESC.
User Definable Sequences
========================
Please note that Drum Blaster comes with 10 files with the extension
"VOC". These are uncompressed 8-bit drum sequences. Drum Blaster searches
the directory in which it resides for ten files with the "VOC" extension.
The first ten files Drum Blaster finds are assigned to function keys F1-F10.
You may replace these files with your own if you'd like. Make sure that
you have at least 10 files with the VOC extension or Drum Blaster will
not work. If you create your own VOC files make sure that they are
uncompressed 8-bit files that are no larger than 65,554 bytes (each).
You may speed up these sequences by pressing the + key. To slow them down
press the '-' key. Pressing '*' resets the sequence speed the their original
settings.
The ten sequences included with Drum Blaster were created by me. First
I used a product called "Band in a Box" to generate the drum beat. Next
I edited the drum sequence using Cakewalk, played the drum sequence
through an MT-32 and dumped it to tape. I then digitized the sequences
into 8-bit VOC samples using Gary Maddox's fine Blaster Master program.
Drum Blaster Librarian
======================
The program DBLIB.EXE is useful to those who would like to create their
own Drum Blaster 2.0 sound libraries. The syntax is simple:
DBLIB yourfile.lib
DBLIB will search the current directory for files with the file extension
"VOC". These files must be uncompressed VOC samples. Do not try to use
compressed files. Make sure that you have at least 43 VOC files in the
directory where DBLIB resides. Make sure that no single VOC file
is more than 65,554 bytes in length. Also, please remember that the lib
you create should be kept to under 500,000 bytes total since the lib is
loaded into low dos memory. I highly recommend that you manipulate/edit
these files with Gary Maddox's Blaster Master.
If you want Drum Blaster to use your library instead of the default
DB.LIB you must type:
SET DBLIB=yourfile.lib
then press the enter key at the DOS prompt before running Drum Blaster.
To reset Drum Blaster to default library type:
SET DBLIB=db.lib
then press enter.
Loop VOC Player
===============
This small VOC player will play a VOC file up to 65,553 bytes in length
continuously. Use it to test your own sampled drum sequences.
Compatibility
=============
Drum Blaster is compatible with the Sound Blaster, Sound Blaster Pro and
the Thunder Board.

One last thing...
While creating this program I managed to produce quite of few Sound Blaster
tools. For $25.00 I'll send you a registered version of Drum Blaster and the
"VBLAST! C Programmers Tool Kit" (Turbo C, Large Model only). Included
with this tool kit you'll find sample Turbo C programs which incorporate
the features of VBLAST! (Drum Blaster uses VBLAST! functions). Write
your own Sound Blaster applications. Develop your own VOC player.
Develop a cool game with nifty sound effects.
